The Baltic Jazz Trio is made up of experienced musicians with solid curriculum, the personalities of the jazz scenes of their respective countries: Estonian bassist Toivo Unt, Lithuanian pianist Dainius Pulauskas and Latvian drummer Māris Briežkalns. Since their debut, which took place in Paris in 2008, the trio has released two albums, the latest dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the Baltic states. I had the pleasure of meeting them in the welcoming frame of Rosetum Jazz Festival, curated by Lorenzo Definti, that stands out with original proposals and artists that are rarely heard in Italy.

The trio’s sound has completely enveloped us with songs by Pulauskas and jazz arrangements of compositions by Baltic authors (including Arvo Pärt, Pēteris Vasks and Mikalojus Čiurlionis). The music, with some folk influence, has been framed in the atmospheres of contemporary northern European jazz: vigorous and bubbly, with a clear and powerful sound that has highlighted the significant elevation of the components.
